Local Citations and Link Building for Small Businesses
Making sure your business is listed correctly across the web, and mentioned and linked from relevant local websites.
Google trusts a business more when its name, address and phone number match everywhere and when respected local websites mention it. This service tidies up what is already out there and adds the listings and local mentions that are missing. It is done properly and steadily. It does not involve buying links.
This works the same way for businesses across the Thames Valley, including nearby in High Wycombe, Reading and Maidenhead, and everywhere in between.

Best for
Businesses with old, wrong or missing listings, and new businesses that no other website mentions yet.
What's included
- Finding and fixing listings that show the wrong name, address, phone number or website
- Setting up the most useful free directory listings, and advising on paid ones
- Finding local websites that could genuinely mention or link to you, for example local associations, chambers of commerce, suppliers and community sites
- Keeping a record of every listing and link, with a short report
This is a draft scope. Say what you need and it can be tailored to your business.
How I work
- 1Your business details get checked across the directories and sites that already mention you, since old or wrong listings are more common than most owners realise.
- 2Mismatches get corrected where possible, and reported clearly where a listing can't be edited directly.
- 3The most useful free directories for your trade and area get set up properly, with paid ones flagged as optional rather than assumed.
- 4Genuine local mentions get sought from real, relevant local sites, never bought or traded links.
Problems I see most often
Your business has an old address or phone number still showing on directories you didn't even know existed.
These get found and corrected or reported for removal. Left alone, they quietly undermine how much Google trusts your other, correct listings.
A new business has no mentions anywhere else online yet.
This is normal for a new business and gets addressed by setting up the directories and local mentions that matter, rather than something to worry about on its own.
You've been approached by a link-selling service promising fast results.
Bought and traded links break Google's rules and risk real harm to a site's standing. Nothing here is ever bought or traded, only genuinely earned mentions.
A note on timing
There's no seasonal angle to this one honestly: consistent, accurate listings matter every month of the year, and there's no good reason to delay fixing a wrong address or phone number regardless of time of year.

A short, no-pressure call is the fastest way to find out if this is the right fit for your business.
How this is done, honestly
- Links are never bought or traded, and link schemes are never used. Google's spam rules penalise them.
- No promise of a number of links or a ranking.
- Whether paid directory fees are included or extra is stated once that is decided.
- Simply Leads' own listings use "Bourne End, Bucks" only, the same address rule as the rest of the site.
Citations and link building FAQs
What is a citation in local SEO?
A citation is any place online that lists your business name, address and phone number, such as a directory, a trade body listing or a local news mention. Google cross-checks these details against your website and Google Business Profile. When they match exactly everywhere, it gives Google more confidence that the business is real and genuinely based where it says it is; when they clash, mismatched or old details, it can quietly undermine that trust.
Is link building against Google's rules?
Building links is not against the rules; buying or trading them is. Google's guidelines specifically target link schemes, paid links that pass ranking credit, and other manipulated link building. Genuine mentions from relevant local websites such as associations, chambers of commerce or local suppliers, earned because the business is worth mentioning, are a normal and accepted part of SEO.
How many directories should my business be listed on?
There is no fixed target number. A handful of well-chosen, accurate, actively maintained listings on directories relevant to the business and its area do more good than dozens of low-quality ones set up and then ignored. Consistency and accuracy across whichever listings exist matter more than the total count.
What if my business already has old or wrong listings out there?
This is common, especially for businesses that have moved, changed their name or changed phone number. Old, duplicate or wrong listings can be found and either corrected or, where they cannot be edited directly, reported for removal. Left alone, they can leave conflicting information for Google and for customers trying to reach you.
Will this include Simply Leads' own listings as an example?
Simply Leads' own listings follow exactly the same rule applied here: "Bourne End, Bucks" only, matching everywhere, which is the standard being recommended, not just a rule for clients.
How do I know a directory or mention is worth having, rather than a low-quality one?
Relevance to your trade or area is the test, not just any directory that will list a business. A handful of accurate, relevant listings does more good than dozens of low-quality ones.
